The Thursday Dispatch - May 29, 2025

Let’s see if I can do this. Let’s see if I can make writing a post every Thursday that’s about the past week or whatever’s on my mind. I’ll share at least one photo. Maybe I’ll share a few links. But I want to make this a routine on my quiet mornings.
Thursdays are the most habitual of my days, or at least I want them to be that way. I sleep in a little, which by my standards means I’m up around 6 a.m. I’ll feed the cat and make coffee, because if I do this in the reverse order, both tasks become that much more annoying due to said cat. Around 7 a.m., I’ll start doing laundry. Sometimes that’s one load, other times it could be three. It kinda depends on my mood and if anything else is going on.
Thursdays are also the day I buy coffee. 12 oz of coffee will last me anywhere between two to three weeks, depending on how much I’ve been consuming. My go-to has become the Brazilian roast at A Hill of Beans here in Omaha. 12 ounces will run me about $15 plus tip. For anyone that gawks at me spending that much on coffee, consider the folks hitting up Starbucks every day. Years ago I ran the math and figured it was running me about 60 cents a cup.
Often, on my coffee runs, I’ll usually get lunch in the process. Usually, I’ll get something on the cleaner side, like a grilled chicken sandwich. Later in the day, I’m usually up for a short hike somewhere to make sure I’m touching grass. I try to be good to myself.
Thursdays are a bit of a reset day for me. They’re when I lean more into myself. I try to forget about work. Biweekly, Thursdays are the bookend to a six-day working stretch for me. So, I like things as quiet as possible on this day. This is also when I’ll look to clean at least one room in my apartment. At the very least, knowing I’m going to sleep in a freshly made bed on Thursday night feels like a huge reward for me.
This Week’s Photo
A friend of mine has been kind enough to offer their design input as I continue to change the feel of my place. I’ve been wanting to make my space feel calmer, veering away from the red & gold color palette I had in my space and leaning more into earth tones, with a lot of blue and green hues. I thought for the longest time a green, maybe like a sage green, blanket would be what I would want on the back of my couch. But, the one I ended up buying (for $11 on clearance!) by my friend’s suggestion I feel works better than I could have imagined. This space, where I spend the majority of my waking hours at home, feels so damn comfortable to me now. Did I mention it’s crazy soft too? So, thank you for the suggestion, B!

A look at what used to be a highway in Seoul, Korea that got turned into a river and a pedestrianized space. Cities need more places like this.
Fourth Place: How is an Intersection this Freak’n Great?! - YouTube
There’s a six-way intersection in the Capitol Hill district in Seattle that used to be a traffic nightmare. Now, it’s much safer for pedestrians & cyclists and is a major transit hub for the area with an improved bus infrastructure. This is one of the things that really pulls me into living in a place like Seattle.
