Discographies

Deep diving into the music I love and discovering more along the way.

There was a time, probably about 10 years ago, where I would discover a new artist and if I liked them enough, I’d explore their entire discography. This happened particularly with Robert Glasper, Christian Scott (aka Chief Xian A.Tunde Adjuah), and Eric Roberson. Instantly, I knew their catalog and their collaborators, and I had more variety in my playlists.

I want to get back to doing that. Back then, I didn’t have a website of my own. So, an idea I’ve been floating around in my head for a moment is to dive into a particular artist’s discography. Part of this is that there have been a lot of albums I just flat out missed (like some of those by Tyler, the Creator). There are a lot of older albums I’ve never explored (like most of Stevie Wonder’s catalog). There are also those who I am familiar with that I just want to dive into again, to see if they still feel the same way I remember.

But, more than simply giving my thoughts on an album, I want to dive more into the “inside baseball” of an album. I want to listen to the production and detail where an album was recorded and who collaborated on it. I want to start revealing the web that is the connections between artists. Because of this, I’m willing to let these pieces burn slowly in the background.

By writing this out, that means I’ll do it now. Let’s do it!
