More in 2026

On doing something I love.

There are a few things I want to do more of in 2026. Hopefully, I’ll bring a few friends with me.

1. More live music

I simply need more of this. I haven’t been to any kind of live show in quite a while, and I frankly miss it. Further, I need a good hip-hop show in my life. Can the Roots please come to Omaha? That kind of thing.

2. Physical media

I want to browse record shops. I want to listen to records at home. While I love my eReader, I want to try reading physical books more. In general, I want to own my media. Sometimes digital media disappears from services. I’d also rather support artists directly more.

I wrote a little more on this subject if you’re interested.

3. Card games

I keep a deck of cards in my backpack at all times, just in case. But here’s the deal (no pun intended), I couldn’t tell you how to play any games anymore. The local game here is pitch, but I really want to learn spades again. Also, dominoes. I’m down to play some bones. I like talking shit to my friends.

4. Vegetarianism

I want to dip my toes into vegetarian cooking. I don’t know if I could go full vegan. But, but I just want to clean up my eating. I don’t think I’m doing terribly, but I do have a weakness for processed sugar.

I have cleaned things up some already. The large majority of the meat I eat is chicken or fish. I also eat smaller portions due to stomach issues. But I know I need more plants in my diet, and that’s my goal here. However, I also need to balance this with working out.

5. More walks

I have a friend I walk with. I want more friends to walk with. It’s a good chance to talk while getting some exercise. Also, nature and fresh air are good for the soul. And when I’m alone, it’s essentially meditation. I’ve checked out some of the trails in the area. I want to check out more, but I’m also up for urban walks too.

6. Expanding my workouts

I want to do more than walk. I want to ride bikes, and I want to nerd out with bikes like I used to. I want to lift a little. I just feel the need to move differently than walking all the time. I have all the tools at my disposal; I just need to use them.

7. Keep writing

Just keep writing. 2025 was the year I discovered that I actually love doing this as long as I’m talking about shit I care about. Do we like doing anything we’re forced to do? But writing has been my therapy for much of the year. I have thoughts that bounce around in my head often, and I have to do something with them. If I can’t talk them out, then I’m writing them out.

The advantage writing has is I can also review as I dish words out. It helps me make sense of things. I may not remember what I just said, but I can always go back to what I just wrote. Writing also keeps me from having to explain myself over and over again (even if I do that on here from time to time). I can just send a link and let someone read my thoughts for themselves. Saves a lot of energy.

Maybe I’ll add more to this list as the year goes on. Ultimately, I just want to improve my life in all aspects. I want to be healthier, both mentally and physically, and happier, both with myself and my relationships.
