On sharing my table.

Went with the European style date for this one. I just like it better. My site uses them by default.

Anyway, to what I was really going to talk about. I’m going to start sharing recipes on here. I’ve been meaning to for a while actually. I not only see this site as a public journal of sorts, my way of being an open book, but also as a resource. Search for “Omaha” on this site for example and you’ll see # Omaha suggested, which will be my posts of spots I’ve checked out and wrote a review on. It’s as much for myself as it is for anyone else.

I grew up in the Deep South in Pensacola, Florida after my father got recommissioned there from Washington State. I learned that food is community in the South. It was a culture shock for me to go to my first big party up here in Nebraska, because there was no spread of food anywhere. Just people drinking. It didn’t make sense to me because any gathering I went to in the South there was food and it was everywhere. Everybody brought something. And there was dancing on the patio or in the car port. That’s just the way it’s supposed to be in my head.

I wrote a few months back about getting a kitchen table for the first time in my adult life. I do hope to have close friends around that table. I want to relearn how to play Spades. And I want to eat well with friends.

But, until then, sharing what I cook is also my way of offering a meal to someone else. We can sit at the same table, even from afar. I made French toast a couple of mornings ago, so that’s what I’m going to share first. I hope you enjoy.

Songs in the Chaos

This is my weekly list of songs that either caught my attention or came to mind this past week. I post these throughout the week on a site called Crucial Tracks, where they’re also added to a playlist on Apple Music. Feel free to follow me on either space.
