The Thursday Dispatch - July 10, 2025

This week, I'm in my creative flow and it feels good.

The Thursday Dispatch - July 10, 2025

I’ve been in a good place this week. One thing I can attribute to this is I’ve been writing more. I’ve mashed out a few pieces this past week and have another I’ve been working on in the background where I give brief thoughts on the albums I listen to during the week. I hope to release that this weekend and every weekend going forward.

My weekly Thursday posts were meant to force me to write. I have downtime on Thursday mornings, so there’s no better time for it. But, it was my way of making sure I’m making the most of the $6/mo I’m paying for this site.

On my old micro.blog page, I felt encouraged to, well, microblog, or post something that didn’t have a title, much like a tweet or any other brief social media post. There was a lot behind “owning your content” there, which is a concept I can still get behind. But, many of those short posts are what I call “disposable thoughts”, which are those fleeting thoughts that I may not hold much value in even an hour from now. What I came to realize is I didn’t need to carry that digital baggage with me everywhere. It’s for this reason my Mastodon account deletes posts two weeks after I posted them.

What this site has done in the past few weeks is force me to actually write, even if it’s only a one-minute read. I want to be forced to think, to investigate, and to learn. I want to discover things about the world and myself and I enjoy sharing what I find. And I enjoy sharing them to a place that frankly looks pretty damn good.

Weekly Photo

I have nothing else this week, so my weekly shot is the one at the head of this piece. This is what my writing situation looks like: me, posted up on my couch, laptop on the coffee table with a beverage placed dangerously close to my keyboard. Usually, there’s music playing in the background (this morning, it’s KEXP’s livestream). Sometimes, I have a cat in my lap. It’s my personal coffee shop.

4K Drive Tokyo to Suwa, Nagano 200km thru Chuo EXPWY / 中央道東京→諏訪湖 - I’ve been watching these Japanese driving videos as of late. Two observations: 1) there’s a noticeable lack of traffic on Japanese highways compared to American ones, and 2) Japan is absolutely beautiful.

Every MLB Ballpark Quirk Explained in 8 Minutes - Baseball is weird and it’s one of the reasons I love it.

Inside the NHL’s Greenest Arena - The home of the Seattle Kraken (and future home of the Seattle SuperSonics) is one of the coolest places around.

How to find a good quote for a bad movie - A good breakdown from Matt Birchler of how those reviews for movie ads come about. There’s a little bullshit involved.

Songs in the Chaos

This is my weekly list of songs that either caught my attention or came to mind this past week. I post these throughout the week on a site called Crucial Tracks, where they’re also added to a playlist on Apple Music. Feel free to follow me on either space.
